The Largest Immersive Technology Performance Theater in the World
The Suzhou Bay Grand Theater in Jiangsu Province, East China, is the first immersive technology performance theater in Asia and the largest in the world.
After nearly seven years, the Suzhou Bay Cultural Center opened on December 12, 2020. Designed by international architect Christian de Portzamparc, this theater complex is now welcoming audiences in the Yangtze River Delta region. The Suzhou Bay Grand Theater, its core component, features an opera hall with a 1,600-person capacity, a 600-seat theater hall, and several rehearsal halls, accommodating various large-scale indoor and outdoor performances.
The Opera Hall’s sound system includes KLING & FREITAG loudspeakers, featuring both fixed and hidden installations. The K&F ACCESS T5 series, installed in the sound bridge and apron wall, combines outstanding audio quality and peak sound pressure over 140dB with minimal distortion. The M5 driver eliminates interference and enhances sound uniformity and transparency. The K&F LINE 212 and K&F NOMOS series deliver excellent down-fill performance with ultra-low frequency response, high peak sound pressure, and uniform omnidirectional sound distribution.
To accommodate different performance styles and requirements, the K&F SEQUENZA 10 series double ten-inch line array was chosen. The “Snap & Fly” system ensures quick and safe setup, complemented by K&F NOMOS XLS ultra-low frequency loudspeakers. On both sides of the stage, K&F GRAVIS point source loudspeakers serve as fixed monitors, with additional K&F GRAVIS units in the top echo board for effect sound. The surround sound and front-fill systems use K&F SONA speakers.
K&F D series digital network power amplifiers drive the Opera Hall’s fixed and mobile systems, ensuring stable, efficient, and high-quality sound. The theater hall features three groups of flying installations utilizing K&F SPECTRA 212 speakers, introduced for the first time in China. These compact, high-performance speakers offer exquisite sound quality and accurate coverage, with VARI Q technology allowing use as both point and linear sound sources.
