Planetarium Münster

An Immersive Experience of the Highest Quality

Planetariums have always offered fascinating insights into our universe. These insights have become even more exciting as more planetariums offer highly complex multimedia content. The Grand Planetarium of the LWL Museum of Natural History in Münster, built in 1981, is one of the largest of its kind in Europe and underwent extensive renovations in 2021 and 2022, costing around 4 million euros.

The impressive dome, with a diameter of 20 meters and a height of 13 meters, provides 630 square meters of projection surface for a panorama with an incredible 60-megapixel modern laser projection. Behind the acoustically transparent screen, 49 speakers from Kling & Freitag (CA, GRAVIS, and NOMOS series) are installed to create an impressive, three-dimensional sound experience. The processing is handled by the SAD-P from our friends “New Audio Technology”, which was set up and calibrated by Tom Ammermann himself.

With the powerful new sound system and the state-of-the-art processor, it is now possible to conduct concerts and other events on the newly created stage in the center of the room, in addition to media audio playback, at the highest sound quality. We wish the team of the Grand Planetarium much enjoyment with the new system!
